Retail Orders Surge During India vs Pakistan Cricket Match: ONDC Report
The government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform received a record 65,400 retail orders during the India-Pakistan World Cup match on October 14 (Saturday), as reported by The Economic Times. This was also the highest number of retail orders registered by ONDC in a single day.
According to the report, orders were made from a total of 600 cities. These five cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad – placed the maximum orders from ONDC. On match day, Delhi booked 7,852 orders, Bengaluru 7,586, Mumbai 3,770, Pune 3,729, Hyderabad 3,231, Jaipur 2,013, Thane 1,763 and Gurugram 1,732.
Several online vendor apps, which are major players in the ONDC food and beverage sector, told the Economic Times that they saw a peak in orders on Saturday more than ever before.
According to categories, food and drink accounted for 47 percent of the orders, fashion 25 percent, electronics nine percent, grocery eight percent, home and kitchen seven percent, beauty and personal hygiene 3 percent, and health and wellness one percent.
The report revealed that cricket match, eve of Navratri, discounts, weekend and multi-shopper apps played a key role.
ONDC is an open technology online platform that allows buyers and sellers to connect and transact with each other online, regardless of what other applications they use.
Buyers and sellers do not need to use the same platform or the same mobile application for the transaction. They can use different apps and still transact.
